What Is Incontinence?

Incontinence is a medical condition characterized by excess urination and leakage. If you feel the need to urinate frequently or you leak from the bladder regularly, then you may have incontinence, and it is something that you will want to be evaluated for by a medical professional. Incontinence can also be used to describe any form of fecal and urinary leakage, and it does not always refer to a loss of bladder control.

That’s because there are a number of causes for incontinence, and depending on which cause is creating your condition, you may need one type of treatment or another. For instance, someone whose incontinence is caused by diabetes and excess weight would not need the same treatment for their condition as someone whose incontinence is caused by nerve spasms.

Incontinence can describe a wide range of experiences. Someone who only leaks a little bit here and little bit there and someone who leaks constantly throughout the day and requires highly absorbent incontinence pads are both experiencing incontinence, just at different levels. This is a very common problem and it doesn’t just affect a certain age range or a certain type of person.

Anyone who believes they may be suffering from incontinence should consider their symptoms and how they match up with the symptoms of incontinence. That would be a primarily a loss of bladder control or bowel control and regular leakage. However, incontinence can also create symptoms of abdominal pain, unpleasant-smelling urine, waking up during the night and trouble controlling one’s bladder when lifting something heavy, sneezing or laughing.

To determine if you have incontinence, you should ask yourself a few questions. The answers to these questions can help you determine if you need to talk to a doctor or a pharmacist about your problem. Ask yourself if you wake up throughout the night to pee regularly. Ask yourself if you have trouble controlling your bladder all the time or just in certain situations. Ask if you have trouble emptying your bowels. Ask if you need to hurry to get to the toilet to pee to avoid an accident. Ask yourself if you soil your underwear or leak when you play sports or work out.

If you answered “yes” to these questions, then you should have a doctor examine you for signs of incontinence. Many people are afraid to go to their doctor about this kind of problem because they feel embarrassed about it. However, it is fairly common, and millions of people suffer from this same condition. The problem is so widespread that there is a major market for incontinence products and they are widely available at most pharmacies and retailers.

Some people feel that if they have incontinence, then their entire life would change, and they are reluctant to find out if that really is the case. Many people who have this condition end up living perfectly normal lives. No one but themselves or their immediate family know that they have to contend with this issue, because they do so discreetly, and the incontinence products they use are easily concealable.

There are a wide range of incontinence products that can be used to treat and manage this condition. No matter how severe or how insignificant the problem is, there is a suitable product and treatment for it that allows the person to enjoy their life and do all the things they used to do before they were diagnosed with this condition.
